The directive from the Cyberspace Administration of China reflects growing tensions in the semiconductor sector, now a focal point of U.S.-China geopolitical competition.

Several companies had begun evaluations and planned bulk orders before the abrupt halt. The move underscores China's push for technological self-sufficiency following U.S. export controls on advanced chips.
